IN honor of my beloved Auburn tigers placing in the BCS National Championship game tonight I thought it might be fun to look at some great interiors done in orange and blue. I know that navy blue is a commonly used color, especially when it comes to decorating little boy’s rooms or masculine offices or “man caves” but navy can be really chic and feminine too. Orange is a color that also gets overlooked… mostly because it can be really bold and loud. I agree that orange is not always the easiest color to incorporate, but when done right it can really give a room that “wow” factor.

I love the how the porcelain plates stand out in front of the dark navy background. If you have white or light china or artwork that you want to display it is a great idea to paint the back of your shelving dark to make the items stand out.

Here is a great example of using orange and blue together. They are complementary colors on the color wheel, (like red and green or purple and yellow) which basically means that just about any combination of blue and orange will work well together.

I love the boldness of the chair against the navy walls. If you are gutsy enough to go bold with your furnishings, I definitely suggest going more modest with other elements in the room. Here for example: the chair is bold but the roman shades are more subtle… giving the space some balance. They also painted all of the trim the in the room the same color as the walls to make even ore of a statement with the navy.

I love how this room is mostly neutral while letting the orange really pop in the space.

This is my FAVORITE example of how to use orange and blue together. The orange is more faded, as is the blue. The blue is soft and soothing while the orange still still brings some brightness to the room even though it is a more subdued shade.

And of course I love this mug…. its so cute and girly!

What are your thoughts on decorating with or and and/or blue? Love it? Hate it?
